Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat: "the pain inflicted on the Japanese people are much more concerned that the cancellation of a championship

The current champions of Europe, Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat, express their feelings about the terrible disaster in Japan, which has led to the temporary cancellation of the World Championship.

Through your facebook profile, both have tried to show their feelings and words of encouragement to the Japanese people.

" At first, when the earthquake and tsunami, we received many messages from the Japanese fans who were afraid and panic. The prospect of seeing all the skaters get the opportunity to live and a few moments out of their sad reality was comforting for them. Despite our concerns, we did our best to support and reassure them. At that point we thought: if we are allowed to go to Japan, we will. The Japanese have always supported us, it's our turn to be there for them. But that was before the situation became more and more tragic: nuclear issues, escalating casualties, risks of a second major earthquake.

Today, the ultra-alarming situation in Japan, fully justifies the cancellation of the championship. It is very confusing to the world of figure skating, but the extreme violence of the disaster, and the pain inflicted on the Japanese people are much more concerned that the cancellation of a championship. The World Championship has no place in the midst of a humanitarian emergency. The ISU did the right thing for skaters, the organization, but also to show respect to all Japanese.

a strictly sports, we would like these championships was postponed and not canceled. We have all worked very hard throughout the season to participate in this competition which is the more important every year. It is very hard to stay motivated and train properly without the ability to plan things. We must do what we can. The place does not matter to us, what really counts is the moment ... but our thoughts are still going to Japan. We are selfish, thinking that our concern is a sporting event when millions of Japanese are in complete distress. We are directly and constantly contact with our Japanese fans and the people we know out there, Facebook. We have sent a letter of solidarity and compassion to the Japanese skating federation. We are constantly informed of developments in Japan and we are doing our best to try to help (although we feel powerless).

hope the gala June in Japan will continue, we will be able to meet our fans again, to express, in person, our gratitude and courage that inspire us. We want Japan and its people prosperity they deserve. Nathalie and Fabian
